Mouth of the Neretva River

The Neretva Estuary is one of the most special natural areas on the Croatian coast. Here, the mighty, cold Neretva, which remains surprisingly fresh even in the middle of summer, meets the Adriatic Sea, creating a landscape that delights with its diversity and vivid colors. This area is known for its vast marshes, sandbars and rich flora and fauna, making it an ideal place for all nature lovers. The estuary is especially popular among kitesurfing enthusiasts. Thanks to constant winds and shallow lagoons, this is one of the best places in Croatia for this adrenaline sport. Both beginners and experienced kitesurfers find perfect conditions here to enjoy themselves on the water. The Neretva Valley is also famous for its tangerine groves, which stretch along the river and give the entire area a distinctive smell and look. During autumn, when the tangerines ripen, the landscape takes on a particularly warm and lively atmosphere. For bird lovers, the estuary is a real little paradise. A large number of species can be observed here, including the mustachioed warbler – a rare and extremely interesting bird that lives in the reed beds of this wetland area.
