Archaeological Park “Kod Kula” <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>

Ste\u0107ci, medieval stone tombstones, also known as bilizi, kami (stones), marbles, were erected from the 12th to the 16th century.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Just before the construction of the A1 motorway, on the last section Vrgorac – Plo\u010de, protective archaeological research was also carried out in Isto\u010dna Plina during 2007\/08.<\/span><\/span> In those two years, about forty ste\u0107ci were removed from six original sites through which the motorway passes today.<\/span><\/span> All the removed ste\u0107ci groups were located in Isto\u010dna Plina at “in-situ” locations (from south to north): Mi\u0161ja Draga, Dra\u010devac, Granica, Gari\u0161te, around Eraka and Kr\u010d Eraci.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>

All ste\u0107ci groups (except Kr\u010d Eraci) were located on prehistoric stone mounds (tumuli) and are connected to them on the attached map with a dotted line.<\/span><\/span> After the groups of ste\u0107ak tombstones were removed from the piles, they found their temporary and unsuitable location on the difficult-to-access terrain behind the parish church of Plina – the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Obli\u010devac, where they remained until 2024. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

After two years of persistent and dedicated work, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Parish of Plina and the non-governmental organization Obli\u010devac finally placed the found 33 ste\u0107ak tombstones on a much more suitable and accessible location in front of the old Parish House of Plina and the Chapel of Saint Pascal “Kod Kula”.<\/span><\/span> The archaeological park “Kod Kula” was chosen as the place of final placement of the ste\u0107ak tombstones for several reasons.<\/span><\/span> In addition to being easily accessible by vehicles and extremely accessible to pedestrians, the site “Kod Kula” has been the social, cultural, religious and educational center of Plina since time immemorial.<\/span><\/span> There is also the old Parish House, and next to it the Chapel of St. Paschal, built in 1759 by the parish priest, Fr. Ante Rozi\u0107.<\/span><\/span> Exactly halfway between the two Plinian churches (the other is the Church of St. John the Baptist in Zapadna Plinia) is the parish house.<\/span><\/span> There used to be a tower there, the vaults of which can still be seen today.<\/span><\/span> That is why it is still called “Kod Kule”, which means “by the Parish House”.<\/span><\/span> Tradition says that it was once a Turkish tower.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This web platform is being developed as a central place for presenting the tourist values \u200b\u200bof the city of Plo\u010de, with an emphasis on better visibility of local attractions, easier access to information and a more modern approach to destination promotion.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>
